This email was sent to all CalArts faculty and staff from the COVID Compliance Taskforce regarding Gov. Gavin Newsom's new safer at home order.
Dear Faculty and Staff:
Gov. Gavin Newsom issued a Regional Safer at Home Order mandating that our campus be closed to all but essential employees, effective tomorrow (Sunday, Dec. 5). In practical terms, we are urging everyone who can work from home to do so. Staying home, if you can, is an important way to foster social distancing and discourage the virus’ further spread. For those of you who must be on campus, we will continue to follow all safety protocols and we’ll support one another. For student workers, it is important that they stay home unless they are critical to remote teaching.
We will continue to provide remote learning to students through the last day of classes on Dec. 18. As previously announced, winter session and spring semester classes also will be provided through remote learning.
If you have any questions about this temporary closing, please contact the following offices:
- For Students - Office of Student Experience, studentexperience@calarts.edu
- For Faculty - Office of the Provost (provost@calarts.edu) or your school dean
- For Academic Staff - your supervisor, program director, or dean
- For Administrative Staff – your supervisor, manager, or the Human Resources Department, hr@calarts.edu
We will continue to post updates to our website as more information becomes available, the situation evolves, or if there are changes in policies affecting students, faculty, or staff. If you have specific COVID related questions, please feel free to reach out to covidcompliance@calarts.edu.
We are thinking of all of you at this time as we continue to be challenged personally and professionally and as we do our best to keep ourselves and each other safe. We stand with you as we face this surge, and our thoughts are with you and your loved ones as we weather this new phase of the COVID pandemic.
Be well,
Maria-Victoria Perez and Jesse Smith
