Valencia, March 15, 2012 – Students and alumni from California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) recently collaborated with former CalArts trustee, Jacqueline Brandwynne to participate in the Walmart Product Challenge. Ms. Brandwynne is introducing a new line of women’s personal care products called Very Private. As part of the Walmart Product Challenge, director and alumnus, Ian Samuels produced an edgy video titled ‘I have a headache’. The lead product featured in the video is an FDA registered intimate moisturizer that ensures pleasure with intimacy.
“This Very Private video is so clever and well-shot,” says Sherry Lansing, former Chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures. “I love it. The video deserves to win the Walmart Challenge.”
Walmart offered inventors throughout the US an opportunity to compete by creating a video showcasing their product. Starting on March 7, the retailer invites the public to browse and vote for their favorites. The ten products that receive the most votes will advance to round two. In the final round the three products with the most votes will win. The winners then get the chance to sell their products through Walmart stores and on the Walmart website. For the public to participate please click on Getontheshelf.com and post your vote through April 3, 2012.
Additional alumni who worked on the video are director of photography, Norbert Shieh, sound technician, Rich Gavin, production designer Rachel Gold and grips Michael Meehan and Goray Kalyan. Current student Raskika Ruwanpathirana served as assistant camera operator. The catchy tango music was composed for the spot by the talented due of Liz Myers and John Trivers of Trivers/Myers Music.
CalArts was recently ranked America’s number one college for students in the arts by Newsweek/The Daily Beast. With its six related schools: Art, Critical Studies, Dance, Film/Video, Music and Theater, CalArts is unique in its multidisciplinary approach to studying the arts. CalArts encourages students to recognize and explore the complexity of the aesthetic, social and political aspects of the arts. It is supported by its distinguished faculty of practicing artists and provides its BFA, MFA and DMA students with both the hands-on training and the engagement with the cultural community necessary for artists’ growth. CalArts was founded in 1961—and opened in 1969—as the first institution of higher learning in the U.S. specifically for students interested in pursuing degrees in the visual and performing arts.
