Black Clock Celebrates Fifth Anniversary at REDCAT (Roy and Edna Disney CalArts Theater)
Valencia, CA-February 17--Black Clock, the singular, idiosyncratic, even mysterious literary journal from California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), celebrates its five-year anniversary and noir-themed tenth issue with a reading and reception at REDCAT  (Roy and Edna Disney CalArts Theater) on Sunday, March 8, at 7 p.m.
For the celebration, Black Clock Editor, acclaimed novelist, critic and member of CalArts MFA Writing Program faculty Steve Erickson will join journal contributors Aimee Bender, Samuel R. Delany, Greil Marcus and Joanna Scott to read selections from Black Clock's first five years, followed by a question and answer session and gala reception.
Now among the nation's foremost literary magazines, Black Clock has showcased award-winning writing by established and emerging authors, with pieces anthologized in best-of-the-year collections and two excerpted novels going on to win National Book Awards.
From across the country, prominent contributors offered their appreciations on the occasion of Black Clock's fifth anniversary. "There's never before been a literary journal with exactly the power and elegance, even the force of enigma, of Black Clock," commented Jonathan Lethem (Motherless Brooklyn). "Each issue arrives in the reader's hands as an artifact throbbing with potential and strangeness, new names and old names in wild conjunctions and brave forays, a journal to drive the collectors of the future into acquisitive frenzies."

Black Clock 10, arriving on newsstands in mid-March, operates on the premise that Twenty-First Century noir is a mutated genre still bearing kinship with the original.
Along with Erickson, Black Clock's staff includes Senior Editor and adjunct member of CalArts Writing Program faculty Bruce Bauman, Managing Editor Michaele Simmering, Production Editor Laura Vena, Editors-at-Large Dwayne Moser and Anthony Miller, and Art Director Ophelia Chong.

CalArts has a multidisciplinary approach to its studies of the arts through six schools: Art, Critical Studies, Dance, Film/Video, Music, and Theater.
