Assistance Grants
Student Experience handles the application process for several assistance grants. Registered students who have unmet financial need and need assistance are eligible for these grants.
DAFCA (Disney Artists for CalArts) Grants: DAFCA grants are designed to assist students with emergencies that cannot be addressed by obtaining an Emergency Loan. Registered students who have unmet financial need are eligible to receive $100 maximum but in special circumstances may be eligible for up to $200 per academic year. The application for DAFCA grants can be found here. Grants are awarded as long as funds are available and are not made during breaks. NOTE: The DAFCA grant is considered a qualified educational need grant, and CalArts is not required to report the income to the IRS. However, the grant may still be taxable to the student, and should be reported to the IRS by the student.
Center for Life and Work Travel Grants: NOTE FOR 2020-2021: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we will not be awarding Travel Grants this school year. Current students may apply for a Center for Life & Work Travel Grant to fund travel expenses incurred during creative or academic pursuits and projects, or to support the success of the student's experience in their program. Travel funds can include airfare, transportation, lodging, and any entrance or registration fees. Travel can occur any time throughout the year and grants will be distributed through reimbursement, based on the amount approved through the application. Awards range between $100 - $300. For more information, see the Travel Grant page. NOTE: The CLW Travel Grant is considered a qualified educational need grant, and CalArts is not required to report the income to the IRS. However, the grant may still be taxable to the student, and should be reported to the IRS by the student.
