School of Theater 2017 Audition and Interview Schedule

The audition and interview dates for students applying to Fall 2017 have not yet been confirmed. Please view last year’s information below for an understanding of the range of dates and locations for the auditions/interviews. The final schedule for auditions/interviews will be posted in early fall; locations and dates are subject to change.

2016 Acting Audition Schedule

Auditions times for each day are either 9 am until 12 pm, or 1 pm until 4 pm unless otherwise noted. Please plan on being available for the entire block of time, although once your audition is complete, you may finish earlier.

Los Angeles, CA: CalArts Campus

  • Saturday, January 23, 10am - 1pm - MFA only
  • Sunday, January 24 BFA only

New York, NY (in Times Square)

**If you are an MFA applicant planning to audition in Chicago or San Francisco, please note that we participate in the URTA auditions. We also reserve a limited number of individual audition slots for direct applicants. Please contact Amanda Shank at ashank@calarts.edu to reserve one of these slots.

2016 Design and Production and Creative Producing and Management Interview Schedule

BFA Program Interviews

Prospective students must complete the admissions application requirements and the online portfolio to be considered for admission. The Online Application must be submitted before an interview will be scheduled.  

The following dates are available for BFA Design & Production applicants. Graduate applicants should refer to the section below. Each interview session will last approximately 30 minutes. Please bring a full, physical portfolio of work to your interview which supplements your online portfolio.

Applicants to the BFA Stage Management program will be contacted directly by the faculty regarding interviews.

On Campus Interview Dates:

  • Saturday, January 23
  • Saturday, February 13

Chicago Interviews - Downtown Area:

  • Saturday, February 6

Telephone Interview Dates for applicants living more than 100 miles outside of in-person interview locations:

  • Tuesday, January 26
  • Tuesday, February 2
  • Tuesday, February 16

Interviews are by appointment only. Once you have submitted your application, please e-mail Amanda Shank, Admissions Counselor for the School of Theater.

Graduate Program Interviews

Prospective students must complete the admissions application requirements and the online portfolio to be considered for admission. The Online Application must be submitted before an interview will be scheduled.

Applicants will be contacted if an interview is requested by Faculty. Not all candidates will be invited to interview.  Interviews may be held by phone, although an in-person interview is preferred when possible.

The CalArts School of Theater will be attending National Unified Auditions/Interviews as part of U/RTA in Chicago, and will meet graduate applicants in all areas of Design, Technical Direction, and Creative Management. We also hold interviews by appointment at our campus.
