Music Application Requirements
An artist statement is very important in the admissions process and should answer the following three questions:
- What issues and concerns inform your artmaking practice?
- Why are you applying to your program at CalArts?
- What are your artistic goals?
2016 Audition Guidelines
Prospective students must complete all Admissions Requirements as well as the program portfolio or audition requirements to be considered for admission.
Please contact Kurt Isaacson, Admissions Counselor, at email@example.com or (661)253-7841 to schedule your audition after your submit your Fall 2016 application.
Applicants to the Programs in Performance and the Musical Arts Program may either give a live audition or submit a recorded audition portfolio. Live auditions are strongly recommended. Auditions are held in January on the CalArts campus as well as in select U.S. cities.
Prospective students applying to our Composition, Jazz and Music Technology Programs do not give live auditions. Instead, they are asked to submit portfolios that include recordings, scores and other materials relevant to the program to which they are applying. See the specific admissions requirements of the individual programs in the left menu.
