Propositional Music: David Rosenboom Portrait Concert @ Wild Beast Concert Pavilion, celebrates and thanks Herb Alpert School of Music Dean and educator David Rosenboom. A selection of Rosenboom’s groundbreaking and globally influential works will be performed, including a new string quartet, brief alumni and faculty duets, and a composition for brainwaves, performed live. Featured artists include the Isaura String Quartet (with Emily Call '13, Madeline Falcone '13, and Betsy Rettig '12), Andreas Levisianos '15, Sarah Belle Reid '15, and James Waterman '15. Food truck fare will be available for purchase on the E-block bridge on the edge of Clark's Field.      

The Wild Beast Concert Series is an outdoor music series offering free concerts on the lawn, spotlighting several genres within The Herb Alpert School of Music at CalArts. Open lawn seating in the S. Mark Taper Foundation Courtyard—a choice setting for families and picnics.

What You Should Know

• Free concerts and free parking: The concerts and the parking are free, but we do encourage you to register with Eventbrite and to carpool if possible.

• Open lawn seating in the S. Mark Taper Foundation Courtyard: Bench-seating is limited and available on a first-come, first- served basis. We encourage you to bring your own lawn chairs and blankets.

• Picnics welcome: The lawn outside of The Wild Beast Music Pavilion is a perfect place for a picnic. Come an hour early and grab that prime spot on the lawn. Please leave the alcohol at home, however; open containers are not allowed on the CalArts campus.

• Family-friendly: The environment for and content of The Wild Beast Concert Series is safe and appropriate for family enjoyment.

• Dress warmly: Each concert lasts approximately 90 minutes and the evening air may get chilly.

About The Wild Beast

The Wild Beast was named in honor of Morton Feldman, Composer-in-Residence at CalArts in 1986, who likened the ineffable creative energy in art to a wild beast.

Designed by Hodgetts + Fung, an architectural firm that also played a critical role in the redesign of the Hollywood Bowl, The Wild Beast houses a highly flexible, acoustically optimized performance and rehearsal space that also allows The Herb Alpert School of Music at CalArts to better serve its growing student population and support an expanded curriculum.

Additionally, with its capacity to accommodate more than 750 guests on the S. Mark Taper Foundation Courtyard grounds, The Wild Beast affords CalArts the opportunity of sharing and engaging its students, faculty, alumni and visiting artists with the broader Santa Clarita Valley community.
