Since guitarists have opportunities in many diverse styles of music, this flexible program is designed to equip students with the requisite skills for pursuing professional careers. The curriculum investigates the wide musical range of the instrument and helps each performer to develop a unique and personal style of playing.
Drawing on the resources of experienced faculty, students can create a customized multifocus course of study drawing from classical music, jazz, flamenco, blues, rock and world music traditions. They can also incorporate studies in other plucked string instruments like North Indian sarod, sitar and early Western instruments, as well as work with MIDI guitar and new interactive music technologies.
