CalArtians Featured in Major Summer Exhibitions
This summer, CalArtians are prominently featured in two major Southern California exhibitions. Phantom Sightings: Art after the Chicano Movement, at The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), presents work by Adrian Esparza (MFA 1998), Christina Fernandez (MFA 1996), Rubén Ortiz Torres (MFA 1992) and Shizu Saldamando (MFA 2005). At The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens, This Side of Paradise focuses on a distinct Los Angeles style of visual expression and includes Photo and Media Faculty Jo Anne Callis, Judy Fiskin and Harry Gamboa Jr., and former faculty member John Baldessari, along with alumni Cathy Opie (MFA 1988), Todd Gray (BFA 1979), Lyle Ashton Harris (MFA 1990), Miyo Hernandez (MFA 2000), Christina Fernandez (MFA 1996), and James Baker (MFA 1999). In conjunction with the exhibition, Photo and Media faculty member Allan Sekula created Edit Nine—an outdoor installation for The Huntington grounds
