Assistant Director of Corporate, Foundation, and Government Giving

Office of Advancement

 

Reporting to the Director of Corporate, Foundation, and Government Giving (CFG), the Assistant Director of CFG is a frontline fundraiser and will have responsibility for a portfolio of corporate, foundation, and government donors and related individuals. The Assistant Director is central in the planning and implementation of the continuation of CalArts’ current $150 million comprehensive campaign, as well as future fundraising campaigns.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, implement and manage cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies to support CalArts foundation, corporate, and government donors in coordination with the CFG Director, Executive Director of Development and the Advancement Services team.
  • Under guidance of the CFG Director, identify and conceptualize new foundation, corporate, and government funding opportunities and models.
  • Identify and qualify new prospective donors.
  • Participate in the development of foundation, corporate, and government fundraising strategies for scholarship programs, REDCAT (the Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater in downtown LA), CAP (Community Arts Partnership), students, faculty, centers, special initiatives, and general operations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in individual giving to grow the donor base for CalArts and secure increased commitments from current donors and volunteers.
  • Work in conjunction with CFG staff on renewing and upgrading current corporate and foundation support.
  • Prepare written materials, including letters, reports and proposals, for CalArts solicitors, including the President, the Vice President for Advancement, Executive Director of Development and Trustees.
  • Work closely with Offices of Finance, Registrar and Financial Aid to gather accurate information in a timely manner.
  • Facilitate relationships between current and potential donors and CalArts administrators, deans, directors and faculty.
  • Support key volunteers in their cultivation and solicitation efforts.
  • Make Raiser’s Edge entries of contacts and write contact reports as appropriate.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of four years of development experience with demonstrated accomplishment in the acquisition of gifts from corporate and/or foundation donors is desirable.
  • Superior writing skills and demonstrably strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Experience and/or interest in contemporary art forms across the disciplines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, together with the ability to listen to colleagues and donors, and tact in dealing with potential areas of overlap.
  • The ability to strategize, formulate and close philanthropic gifts, along with a talent for motivating donors.
  • Flexibility and initiative, as well as the ability to work independently, combined with the skills for thriving in a team environment to achieve Corporate, Foundation, and Government goals.
  • Familiarity with Raiser's Edge.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
