Assistant/Associate* Director of Financial Aid
Office of Financial Aid
Under the direction of the director of financial aid, the assistant/associate director of financial aid is responsible for using comprehensive knowledge of financial aid processes (packaging, loan processing, verification, etc.) to counsel students and parents in financial aid eligibility, policies and procedures. In addition, (s)he will monitor compliance of federal, state, institutional and private financial assistance programs as well as assists in developing and enhancing policies and procedures within the office.
* Candidates with several years of financial aid leadership and planning experience will be considered for hire at the Associate Director level.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with director to develop effective aid packaging strategies to make efficient use of institutional aid resources.
- Assist in providing leadership and guidance to students, parents and the CalArts community.
- Assist with the overall administration of federal, state and institutional aid programs for the Institute’s new and continuing students.
- Collaborate with school liaisons to award financial aid packages to new and continuing students.
- Assist in packaging and review of student aid awards and appeals.
- Exercise professional judgment when working with students and parents to resolve issues regarding financial aid decisions and procedures within established guidelines.
A successful candidate will have:
- Minimum of three years of progressively responsible financial aid experience in a college or university.
- Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred).
- Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations.
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
- Strong work ethic to set work priorities and manage workload effectively.
- Working knowledge of enrollment management model.
- Excellent verbal, written communication and planning skills.
- Commitment to customer service principles and standards.
- Knowledge of and interest in contemporary visual/performing arts a plus.
