Admissions Counselor – Sharon Disney Lund School of Dance

Office of Admissions

 

 This position reports to the Director of Admissions and will also have extensive engagement with the Dean of the School of Dance and School of Dance faculty.  This position will play a key role in the admissions process and will be involved in the full range of recruitment and field activities including conducting on and off-campus sessions, participating in extensive recruitment travel and representing the Institute as a whole at a variety of admissions sponsored events.  Travel, evening and weekend work are required.  Assistant Director level will be considered for more seasoned professionals.

 

 
RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

           Implement recruitment strategies within the School of Dance.

           Maintain a close working relationship with all members of the CalArts community, particularly with the Dean of the School of Dance and the School of Dance faculty.

           Maintain knowledge of the School of Dance programs, curriculum, faculty, facilities and admissions procedures and requirements. 

           Schedule, organize and confirm all on and off-campus auditions and portfolio reviews for the School of Dance.

           Maintain accurate, updated records and prepare periodic reports

           Assist in the admissions review process.

           Assist in the financial aid awarding process.

           Represent the Institute at on and off-campus events.

           Contact teachers and counselors at secondary schools and community colleges regarding college fairs, and visits by CalArts faculty and admissions representatives locally and nationally.

           Arrange and give tours of the Institute and informational sessions for groups and individuals.

           Manage a heavy volume of telephone and email inquiries from prospective students, applicants and admitted students.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

           Knowledge of and experience in modern dance technique and/or                   choreography.

           Knowledge of and interest in contemporary visual and performing arts and the ability to speak and write clearly about the training of young artists.

           Exceptional communication skills.

           Strong administrative, organizational and time management skills.

           Ability to communicate effectively with Admissions co-workers, School of Dance Dean, faculty, prospective students, and parents.

           Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

           Academic recruitment experience preferred.

           Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license for off-campus recruiting visits.

           Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree is preferred.
