CalArts' 60-acre, residential campus is in the village of Valencia in the suburban city of Santa Clarita. The campus is north of Los Angeles, adjacent to Interstate Highway 5 on McBean Parkway - 40 miles from Los Angeles International Airport; 21 miles from the Burbank Airport and only 1/2 hour north of downtown Los Angeles.

CSSSA

 

CalArts does not have a summer session, but it is the site of the California State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA), held from early July to early August. High School students, grades 8-12, may apply for admission to CSSSA and they do not have to be residents of California to attend. Students in CSSSA choose from programs in performing arts, visual arts and creative writing.

Facilities / physical plant

 

 

Our campus was designed with artists in mind; with its large open areas, rehearsal rooms, performance spaces, galleries and studios. The Facilities Management staff works behind the scenes to provide professional services to the CalArts community including building maintenance, HVAC, landscape and environmental services, custodial services, security, mailroom/receiving and safety/disaster preparedness.

The Store @ CalArts, located in Tatum Lounge, D213, carries items needed by students including CalArts merchandise, Film/Video supplies, animation paper, candy, sundries, and some school and art supplies.

Tatum Lounge

 

Located in D213, Tatum Lounge features a coffee bar staffed by students during posted hours and is a gathering place that is open 24 hours a day. Enjoy chatting with friends, watching television, or viewing an art exhibition in Tatum. Events in this space may be scheduled through the Institute Coordinator.
